Cabin filter
A cabin filter or cabin filter ensures that fresh and clean air flows into your car. The cabin filter is made from microfiber sheets that filter
dirt, grease, dust, soot particles and of course pollens from the air. Because
large amounts of air flow through the filter, the filter gets clogged over
time.
There are two types of cabin air filters; the standard filter (white)
and an active carbon filter (black). A standard cabin filter consists of microfiber
that absorbs substances. Activated carbon is added to a carbon air filter,
which ensures that harmful gases are retained and therefore cannot enter the
cabin of your car. A carbon filter is also often more expensive than a standard
filter but is definitely worth it.
Dirty cabin filter When the cabin filter is clogged, the dirt in the air will no longer be filtered
properly. In the most favourable case, with a clogged filter you will only get
an unpleasant odour in your car. In a less favourable situation, a clogged
filter ensures that windows get foggy or get a bit greasy. The pollen will also
no longer be properly filtered, which can be disadvantageous for people with
allergies and/or hay fever. In the most unfavourable case, the fan motor
overheats, which can cause damage to your car.
Cleaning cabin filter Is the filter not damaged in such a way that it needs replacement? Then you can
also choose to clean the cabin filter. For this situation, we offer a cabin filter cleaning set. Please note, cleaning sets only work with so-called
washable filters and are not suitable for cleaning any filter. We recommend replacing the cabin filter in time.
Change cabin filter The best option is to regularly change the cabin filter. We recommend changing the cabin filter once a year or every 30,000 kilometres or 20,000
miles. If you use the filter for a longer period, the filter gets full and
eventually clogged. The amount of fresh air which gets into the car decreases.
Luckily, replacing a cabin air filter is something you can easily do yourself.
Anyone can do it. There´s no need for any special knowledge or set of tools required. The location of the filter depends on the make and type of car.
For some cars, the filter is located under the glove box on the passenger's
side. For other cars, the filter can be found under the bonnet. If you can find
the filter, you can easily replace it.
Under the bonnet: If the filter is under the bonnet, you need to partially remove the rubber
strip at the bulkhead. Followed by removing the cover, after which you can take
out the filter and simply replace it with the new one.
Under the dashboard: Under the dashboard, you can find 2 plastic screws. Carefully unscrew these. You
can then slide the cover to the right to release the filter. Remove the cabin filter
and clean it from dirt. The new filter can be put into position and refix the
cover plate.
