EGR-valve cleaning

Spray these on the valve, the dirt will soak off, which makes the valve clean again. It is often relatively easy to reach the EGR-valve. Simply remove one or two hose clamps. However, simply cleaning this valve is not always sufficient. Then it is the need to clean the whole intake system, such as the particle filter and the intake manifold.

EGR-valve replacement

If the problems have not disappeared after cleaning the EGR valve, it is so worn that the valve needs to be replaced. In principle, you can replace the valve yourself. However, it differs per car how simple this is to replace the EGR valve. One thing is for sure, replacing the EGR-valve yourself is a lot more beneficial than outsourcing the job.

You can easily purchase a new EGR-valve with your license plate. You can order a new EGR for as little as £25,-. Obviously, this depends on the make and type of your car. You can among others order a valve from the brands Bosch, Pierburg, Hella and Wahler. It is also possible to buy EGR-valve cleaners at Winparts.

EGR-valve

The EGR-valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), is located on all modern diesel engines. This valve reduces the emission of Nitric Oxide and Nitrogen Dioxide (NOx). These exhaust gases pollute beside the valve also the particle filter and the intake manifold. Over time the EGR-valve needs to be replaced or cleaned, to prevent malfunctions.
