Valve cap functions

Valve caps are there for a reason and fulfill a few important functions for car tyres. These small parts ensure that the tyres are well protected against dirt, brake dust, moisture and stones. These external influences are very bad for the tyres and you would therefore prefer to keep them out. Often you cannot prevent the car from driving through mud, dirty puddles or on sandy roads. Therefore make sure that the valves are always fitted with good valve caps. Moreover, the cost of a good set of valve caps does not outweigh the cost of damage to the tyres!

Another important function of the valve caps is to maintain the tire pressure. When properly cared for and tightened, the valves and caps will prevent air from escaping from the tyres on a regular basis. If there is no cap on the valves, there is a greater chance that some air will escape. Therefore, regularly check whether the valves and valve caps are still properly tightened and that they are in good condition.

Install valve caps

Fitting new valve caps is a piece of cake and can be done within a few minutes. However, it is useful to keep a few things in mind. For example, it is important to immediately check the condition of the valve. Also clean the valve well and let some air escape from the tyres if necessary. This ensures that the valve is blown clean from the inside. With aluminum or metal caps, it is useful to also lubricate some copper grease in the caps. Otherwise you may not be able to get the cap off properly later.

Have you made all the preparations and is everything neat and clean? Then you can place the valve caps on the valves. Make sure to tighten them firmly until they are seated.
