Recognize a broken release bearing

The clutch release can usually maintain its operation well for about 100,000 km. However, a defect cannot be prevented. The most common cause of a defect bearing is therefore fatigue. Over time, the grease between the parts will lose its lubricating effect, causing excessive friction. Furthermore, driving style can have a major influence on premature failure of this component. You can prevent premature failure by letting the car idle at traffic lights and crosswalks while you wait. Long standstill of the car is also unfavorable, so you run the risk of rust formation between the gear shaft and the bearing.

When to replace the clutch release bearing?

A defective clutch release bearing can be recognized by a rattling, whistling or squeaking sound when pressing the clutch, which becomes more and more audible over time. This noise is caused by the part being worn out. When the clutch release bearing is worn on the guide bush, pressing the coupling can also feel rough or heavy. Continuing to drive with a defective thrust bearing can cause severe wear and even damage to the transmission. It is therefore important that you replace the bearing in time to prevent further damage to your car.

Replace clutch release bearing
