Gaskets

The gaskets of the car are divided into two types, namely solid gaskets and liquid gaskets. The solid gaskets are the most common type in the car. In addition, there is also a difference between oil and exhaust gaskets. Oil gaskets provide a good seal between the parts that are lubricated with oil. The exhaust gaskets are located at the exhaust and ensure a good seal so that no exhaust gases can escape.

Gaskets from a car

The car has many different gaskets. For example, a cylinder head gasket is mounted between the engine block and the cylinder head. Its task is to prevent the exhaust gases, engine oil and coolant from leaking out. Another example is the crankcase gasket, which is mounted between the engine block and the oil pan. The engine oil is collected in the sump, which is then pumped through the engine block by the oil pump. If this gasket was not there, the oil would have to be topped up very often because a lot would be lost along the way. In addition, the various gaskets ensure that the parts are sufficiently cooled and lubricated and that no harmful gases escape.

In addition to the solid gaskets, there is also liquid gasket. These liquid gaskets can be applied as a kind of sealant. Liquid gaskets are often used in addition to the regular gaskets. This variant is often not strong enough to ensure a complete seal.

When a gasket on the car has broken, you may find that the engine oil needs to be topped up more quickly. When an oil gasket leaks, the oil will not stay with the parts, but will seep between them. So a lot of oil is lost, which you can also notice from an oil trail under the car. In the event of a leaking cylinder head gasket, white smoke will also come out of the exhaust. However, this can also be due to other causes.
